My mother is the most wonderful person that I know. She worked extremely hard all through our childhood to make sure that we were all taken care of to the best of her abilities. My dad took off when we were young, so she had to do everything by herself. I know it wasn’t always easy, but she made it look that way. We never wanted for anything or noticed that we weren’t the same as the other two parent families around us.
When I got older, and became rather successful, I knew that I owed it all to her. Every year for her birthday, we celebrated her and everything that she has done for us. Usually we spent a pretty penny on a nice cake from the local bakery…. until this year.
I wanted to put my own blood, sweat, and tears into this cake. She loves chocolate and when I saw this recipe for a mile high chocolate cake on Recipe Lion, I knew it would be her best birthday gift of the year. It went together a lot easier than what I thought it would.
The look on her face when we brought it out was worth all the work put into it, too. I can see this becoming a new birthday tradition!
