I can remember watching the movie, “Fried Green Tomatoes” with my mom as a young girl and being totally intrigued by the, well, fried green tomatoes they were eating. After expressing this curious notion to my mother she got out some flour and seasonings and tried to make us a batch of fried green tomatoes. it was summertime so we had some green tomatoes in our garden. I’d be lying if I said mom’s experiment was the best tasting thing around, but it was palatable. Mom perfected her recipe at a later date after she had time to get her hands on a proper rendition of fried green tomato instructions.
As I type this I feel such a hunger for those yummy fried green tomatoes but alas, it is fall and there aren’t any greenies to be found. So, I found the next best thing, a recipe for friend Roma tomatoes. Yep, you can use red maters if that’s all you’ve got to work with and they still taste marvelous. This recipe makes up a hefty batch of fried Roma tomatoes and they taste great. Serve them at your next party or family get-together. I like to create different dippers to experiment with each time I make these. My favorite so far is Ranch dressing with Old Bay Seasoning. Yum!
