When my husband and I first got married and started off on our own, it wasn’t the easiest of times. There were weeks when we were literally counting up our change just so that we could have money to buy something for dinner. It wasn’t easy, but we made it. When we were really having a hard time, I called my mom to ask her what it was like when her and my dad first started out. She told me it was very much the same.
Then, she shared with me a recipe just like this one from Group Recipes for a hamburger casserole. She said that it was a cheap meal that was tasty and made a lot, so we could eat for a couple of days on the same money. It was one they used to use all the time.
I took her advice and made the casserole. Much to my delight, it was actually very good, and my husband liked it too. It really helped us through those early years. No more scraping for pennies!
