Grandma’s Traditional Shortcake Recipe

As a school teacher, I am lucky enough to have a work year that starts and ends, giving me a few months of time off during the summer. It’s one of the many rewards that come along with the position that don’t involve a big paycheck. After all the kids take their books and supplies out of their desks for the final time of the year, the staff always get together for an end of the year potluck in the very empty and quiet lunchroom.

It’s bittersweet every year. We all are going to miss our kids, but we are happy to see their accomplishments, and excited for a new group of students. Last year, I got picked to bring in a dessert. I knew what I was going to make without hesitation. My Grandma’s strawberry shortcake recipe.

I have just the basic recipe which is a lot like this recipe from All Recipes. Then, it just gets jazzed up with the fresh fruit and some whipped topping for a delicious finish. The staff all loved it!
