Straight From The South Texas Hash

My grandparents lived on an old ranch right in the heart of Texas. We lived a couple of states away in Oklahoma, so we didn’t often get to see them. We wanted to be there all the time, but it just wasn’t a feasible event more than once or twice a year. That was, until I entered high school. My parents gave me the opportunity to go and stay with them for the entire summer, if that’s what I wanted to do. Of course! They couldn’t get me to the airport fast enough.

I didn’t even care that I was leaving all my friends behind for nearly three months. It was going to be the most amazing summer of my life. All the open air, the animals, and the love from my grandma and grandpa all to myself? No problem! One day, after we got done working on the ranch, we came into the most incredible smell. Grandma had been cooking while Grandpa and I were out.

It was a Texas hash just like this recipe from A Family Feast. It was by far the most memorable dish that Grandma made that summer. I was sure to steal her recipe, so my mom could make it at home. Now that I’m older, I can make it for my family. It always is a huge crowd pleaser!
