My nephew recently came home from a year away at college, and his mom, my sister, wanted to welcome him back in a big way. We have always been a pretty close family, so when something happens, we do it together. She thought about taking us all out to eat, but figured it would be too expensive. I didn’t really want to say hello to him the restaurant experience anyways. It’s almost impossible to get any time to talk to someone that way unless you are sitting right next to them.
So, I suggested we just go to her house for dinner. I told her I would bring the dessert. I had recently seen a recipe for Snickerdoodle Poppers on The Weary Chef, and I needed an excuse to make them.
I actually took all the ingredients to her house and made them there because I wanted them to be nice and warm when I served them. My nephew was so intrigued with what I was doing, he stood next to me at the stove and helped with the process.
I got that one-on-one time with him I was looking for and we all got a pretty great dessert.
