Coffeeholics And Chocoholics Unite: This Layer Cake Is Your Ultimate Dessert

There are two things that will surprise me on a Saturday morning- I will be allowed to wake up late and the reason for such thing. Sometimes, I will go down at the kitchen around 8 am- which is pretty late for me because I usually wake up at 7 during the weekends to prepare breakfast for the family- only to see the husband donning an apron and entertaining the kids with this culinary skills. It’s a perfect picture for me, but that doesn’t take away the fact that I was surprised.

My husband knows how to cook of course; he also knows how to bake (I think he’s even better than me). However, he rarely does it because work gets in the way. And when he does, that usually means one thing- he was craving for a recipe and he’s too impatient to wait for me.

Whenever this happens, I make sure I wait patiently because it usually means there will be something amazing that will arrive. I know my husband- he’s too meticulous when it comes to his recipes. He could have been a chef if he wanted to!

Last time he acted like this, my sons and I enjoyed a marvelous chocolate coffee cake. Being a coffee lover, I ate a huge slice. And since my sons love chocolate, well, let’s just say they were covered in icing right after.

Quick Tip: If the buttercream is liquidy after you’ve added all the butter, try chilling it in the fridge in 10 minute intervals to stiffen the butter. After 10 minutes, try beating it again. If necessary, chill for another 10 minutes.
