Teresa is one of my closest friends whose part-time job is to organize parties for her family and friends. We don’t pay her, she doesn’t want that; but we allow her to take photos of the parties which she can include in her portfolio. In a year, she will open her own party planning business. Teresa gets a lot of weird requests for parties. For example, for a reception for a wedding, the couple wanted the garden to be turned into a graveyard just because they’re fans of horror movies. I heard about an 12-year-old who wants cages and poles installed in their living room for her bash. She saw them in one movie and thought they are cool. I am not sure how Teresa can handle these requests for free because I definitely couldn’t if I were in her place.
Her recent predicament was a birthday party for a 25-year-old guy who happens to be one of the brothers of my boyfriend. The theme was thought of by his crazy brothers. They wanted to give him a kiddie party for his 25th birthday. They wanted everything so colorful their brother would be shocked of all the brightness. And that should include food. One of the ideas was chocolate chip cookies because it was a childhood favorite of the birthday celebrant. The day before the party, we, her girl friends, were slaving away in her kitchen, baking humongous differently colored cookies based on the recipe of the brothers’ Mom. We used food coloring as suggested by my best friend. The process was a little messy, but the cookies tasted really good. They’re moist, chewy on the inside, and extremely colorful. Teresa owed us a fancy dinner for this one!
