Winter Snowflake Sugar Cookies! Yay!

Do you enjoy gifting people with cookies and candy over the holidays? Nothing says “I love you” more than a homemade treat!

Check out what my pals over at My Sweet Mission had to say about this recipe:

We have the best neighbors, so several of these cookies went to different homes on our street. I sealed the cookies individually, then to keep the color scheme, I put the cookies in frosty blue snowflake gift bags (Dollar Tree), with a powder blue Christmas card. Sealing cookies and other treats are a great way to give food gifts.

What an adorable idea! I love giving food gifts away, too and these cookies will make a wonderful treat for my friends and family.

Ingredients

1 cup Kerrygold butter, softened

1¼ cup Domino granulated sugar

3 Eggland’s Best eggs, large

1 teaspoon McCormick vanilla extract

3 cups Gold Medal flour, unbleached or all-purpose

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon Morton salt

For the frosting:

1 pound confectioners sugar (3¾ cups)

½ cup butter, slightly melted

¼ cup TruMoo milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For decorating:

Aqua blue edible glitter

Blue colored sugar

White pearlized Jimmies

Blue and white candy pearls

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350º F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, beat well.

Add the first cup of flour with the cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Mix on low until blended. Then add the rest of the flour and mix on low just until blended again. Do not over mix.

Cover the dough and chill in the fridge for 30-45 minutes. Remove from fridge, flour the counter or cutting boardand roll out the dough to about ¼” thick, adding a little more flour if necessary so the dough doesn’t stick. Dip the cookie cutters in flour each time, cut out shapes and carefully put them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper about 1″ apart.

Bake in a preheated 350º F oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are light golden brown. Cool on baking sheets while making the frosting.

For the frosting: In a mixing bowl add the confectioners sugar, butter, milk and vanilla extract and mix until smooth and creamy.

Put the frosting in a Wilton Dessert Decorator Plus with the smallest piping tip, make the snowflake designs and sprinkle with edible glitter, or colored sugars and candy pearls.

Quick Tip: If you only have one or two baking sheets, cool cookies 10 minutes on baking sheets then transfer them to a cooling rack.
