Pet brand does not make condensed milk. They make evaporated milk. Condensed milk contains sugar and evaporated milk does not. This question really needs to be cleared up because I and many others are interested in this recipe and using the wrong milk would turn into a cookie disaster.

Okay, I’m confused. The recipe says to add 1/4 cup plus 4 Tablespoons of Caster Sugar. Not sure about there, but in the U.S. 4 T is the same as 1/4 cup! So is it 1/2 cup??

Do you use evaporated milk or sweetened condensed milk? The directions/title are contradictory.
*Evaporated and condensed milk are completely different.

In the cookie recipe you mentioned Pet sweetened condensed milk….is there sucha thing and a big can or small can….all of the other commentors are confused as well.

I use Eagle Brand condensed milk for all recipes that call for condensed milk. That’s available in Canada, not sure about elsewhere….. I also buy the no name brand that’s available for at least a dollar cheaper and it’s just as good.

I didn’t know PET made condensed milk…I am aware of their evaporated milk…I will have to check on this as I would like to make these cookies…

So, 1/4 cup + 4 Tablespoons of sugar….I’m confused. 4 Tablespoons is 1/4 cup. But 100 ml is 6.76 Tablespoons, so don’t you think you would round it to 7 Tablespoons? Because otherwise it’s a total of 1/2 cup.

Recipe says sweetened condensed milk and castor sugar is very fine sugar. You can make castor sugar by blending granulated sugar in food processor.

Sugar is processed differently for some countries. In the USA, castor sugar is sold as “superfine” or you can simply put that amount of sugar in a food processor or blender and pulse it to a bit finer. The only brand I know of for sweetened condensed milk in the US is Eagle Brand (made by Borden’s, I think). This is milk that is processed to remove all water from the milk and sugar is added during the processing. There is a HUGE difference between evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. The cookies are delicious … I made a batch. Ignore the metric measurements, if you’re not used to them and just follow the Cup and Spoon measures. It’s confusing, I agree, but go with what you know and you’ll love the cookies!

These cookies are too sweet – way too sweet – I modified it for the second batch – I used 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk and instead of adding 1/2 cup of sugar I dipped the tops of them in sugar before squishing with the fork – they came out so much better – the cup of sugar along with the already sweetened condensed milk made a cookie that was so sweet it made my eyes jiggy… but they way I modified them made a really good cookie – they are kind of chewy and crisp around the edges – I will make my modified recipe again : )
