Check out what my friends at Fake Ginger had to say about this caramel apple crumble:
I want this. I think I can justify it as it has apples in there and therefore it’s healthy. I get a sugar test in a couple weeks – well I broke the first rule today!! Ha!!
You definitely don’t want to worry about sugar with this one, as it has both white and brown sugar! The apples are best chopped big in my opinion, but everyone is different. It doesn’t really matter because I love the crumbly topping best. I could eat it alone on top of ice cream.
Ingredients
For the apples:
1 cup Domino brown sugar
1/2 cup Domino granulated sugar
5 large apples, peeled and cut into chunks
1/4 teaspoon Morton salt
1 teaspoon McCormick cinnamon
For the topping:
2/3 cup Quaker oats
2/3 cup loosely packed Domino brown sugar
1/4 cup Gold Medal flour
1/2 teaspoon McCormick cinnamon
3-4 tablespoons Land O Lakes softened butter
1 teaspoon McCormick vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, mix together Domino brown sugar, granulated sugar, apples, Morton salt, and McCormick cinnamon. Spread onto bottom of slow cooker.
- Mix your crumble topping ingredients until it’s incorporated. Sprinkle it over top of the apples. Cook on low for 4 hours, or high for 2 hours.
- Turn off the slow cooker and let sit, covered, for one hour to let the caramel get thicker.
