I’ve Always Preferred This Salad Hot, It’s Light Vinegary Base is Just Perfect

As a kid, I was a little hesitant to try German potato salad, but I’m so glad I did. My first experience was at a huge German festival and so surrounded by the culture I got the full effect while grown men indulged in glass boots of beer. I quickly fell in love with the warm vinegar and bacon flavors. It’s super easy to get going in the crock pot and ready for dinner in the evening.

The best part of this style of potato salad is that it’s not as heavy as traditional. True, I have a place in my heart for both but it’s nice to switch it up every now and then. I find its best at room temp, so a couple hours before it’s done I turn off the slow cooker and let it rest with the lid off. Either way it’s the perfect picnic side!

I make mine pretty close to this, I also add 1/3 cup of sugar, and I don’t put in mustard. I have never tried to do it in a crock pot but you can be sure I will now.
