Growing in the country, meatloaf was always a staple meal at my mother’s table. We were a meat and potatoes kind of family. Her recipe was so succulent, so juicy, and so savory that it made your hair stand on end just to get a whiff of the magnificent loaf of meat cooking.
Mom always served her meatloaf with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and corn bread. It was a feast of flavors. Then, after dinner, we would have some sort of country dessert like apple pie or peach cobbler.
Year after year, I’ve been making and serving my mother’s meatloaf to my own family. However, I felt like I wanted to add an interesting twist to the recipe and I experimented with other flavor combinations and such. What would you add to your meatloaf to jazz it up a bit?

Quick Tip: If you don’t have any brown sugar, white sugar will serve as a fine substitute.
Adding a bit of molasses to white sugar will give you the flavor of brown sugar. Just a tiny bit!
