When I think of custard, I imagine the filling that comes inside of a Long John donut. You know what I mean, that yellow creamy stuff that you just can’t wait to sink your teeth into. After I discovered this recipe, I have a new image of what real custard truly is and it’s way better than anything you could ever find inside of a store-bought donut.
This custard is a delightful sauce that can be served both warm or cold. My mother-n-law was the first person to introduce me to this amazing sauce. She said that during the holidays her family puts this custard on everything.
I think it tastes great over sweet bread or cinnamon rolls. However, you can put it on anything that you like! I’ve been told it pairs extremely well with brownies – I’ll have to give it a try soon!
