My sister called me from a few towns away recently and told me that a distant uncle of ours had passed away. He didn’t have any other family, and Shelly was always really good about keeping up with those kinds of things. She didn’t want anyone in our family to be laid to rest without a proper service. Even though we didn’t know him that well, we wanted a chance for his friends that did know him to say their goodbyes.
The service was a small one. Not many people showed. The man was 98 years old though and with no immediate family to speak of, I wasn’t really surprised to see the small group. We invited them all over to Shelly’s after the service for a little dessert and coffee and some remembrance moments.
My sister had made up this delicious cinnamon cream cheese apple cake that was incredible. We served all the guests before taking our portions of course. They thanked and thanked us for everything that we had done. I couldn’t have been more happy to be able to assist them with the closure they needed.
