I love cakes that do not overwhelm you with all of its richness and sweetness. I don’t really mind if its rich for example, as long as there is something to counter that taste. I always make room for dessert. I love to enjoy my sweet treat a lot too. So if it gets too overwhelming, I don’t get to finish it. It makes me a bit sad because desserts are meant to be enjoyed down to the last morsel.
Cakes that has a lot of balance on it make me really happy. My husband agrees with me too. He says that while he has a sweet tooth, he gets overwhelmed if its too much of the same thing.
Whenever I make desserts, I try to make sure it has that balanced taste on it. That makes me a little less guilty too when feeding my kids with it. Since they love sweet and rich things, I have to at least control it.
This recipe from Simple Nourished Living is the ultimate cake dessert that just tastes so right. It has all the flavors my husband and I want on a cake. It’s sweet but at the same time, there is a hint of bitterness coming from the espresso.
I allowed my kids to have a small slice of this cake and even them loved this! I just had to say no when they ask for another slice because too much of a good thing is bad. Anyway, enjoy this recipe!
