When my mother put a meal on the table she always had certain foods on the table regardless of the main entree.
Bread and butter, dill pickles, sharp cheddar cheese, and a new side dish every once and a while. She always had the typical spread on the table, but would try to change it up with a different type of vegetable. Nothing too out there, but always tasty!
Our family was a meat and potato type of family so my mom would try to take potato dishes and replace the potato with a carrot. I always liked to try the dishes, unless it was brussel sprouts. I still don’t like them to this day!
One side dish I loved and I now make for my family, garlic parmesan carrots. These carrots are absolutely tasty! Every time I smell them cooking I can imagine sitting around the dinner table as a child with my mom, dad, and siblings. Now I get to see my hubby and children sitting at the table enjoying the same dish!
