Fried Love: Wonton Apple Pie Bites

Anyone will fall in love with these wonton pie bites! They’re handy, which is why you don’t need anything special to serve them on. People can just enjoy them without hassling themselves too. Place a basket in front of the guests along with several paper napkins and the pies will be gone in seconds! I make a batch of this sometimes so I can have a little something sweet after a particularly rich main course.

Because that always happens, isn’t it? You sometimes get tired of a taste so your tongue will look for something sweet, but not really too sweet.

These pies are perfect for that!

Ingredients:

1 Eggland’s egg

1 Tbsp water

1 can(s) of your favorite pie filling or make your own recipe (I use apple)

1 pkg Nasoya wonton wrappers

2 – 3 c Wesson canola oil for frying

GARNISHING

2 c Domino granulated sugar

1 tsp McCormick ground cinnamon

Domino powdered sugar

Instructions:

In a shallow dish, mix sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and the water for the egg wash.

Place one wonton wrapper on a clean, dry surface. With a small pastry brush or a spoon, paint the edges of the wonton wrapper with the egg wash. Then spoon 1 teaspoon of the pie filling in the middle. Fold over to form a triangle and seal very well. Repeat for remaining. Make sure you have a good, tight seal, otherwise the filling will leak out and cause oil splatters.

Heat oil to 375 degrees.

Carefully slide in a few wontons into the oil with a long-handled spoon. (Use a screen to protect you from the oil.)

Fry for 1 minute on each side, until golden brown. Drain on rack.

While still warm, sprinkle won ton on both sides with sugar/cinnamon mixture or powdered sugar and place back on rack to cool.

Transfer to a serving tray or to individual serving dishes.
