My grandmother didn’t like using ready mixes for anything.

She hates using frozen dough, pancakes in a box, cakes in a box, or anything else that’s been pre-made and packed in boxes that we see in supermarkets. She always loved making things from scratch even if she knew it would take her a long time to finish cooking these dishes. I couldn’t blame her. She belonged to that generation where everything was made from scratch. Imagine how they were able to make cakes without mixers? Imagine doing whipped cream by hand or dough!

If she was alive, my grandmother would probably be reprimanding me because I go against her food philosophy. I love using mixes to whip up food for myself. I use pancake mixes the most for breakfast. All you have to do is add egg and milk and voila! Instant pancake batter. Life is made so much easier with the recent cake mixes. If you have very little time on your hands, just take out that box and start adding the last couple of ingredients needed for the instant perfect dessert. I’m sorry, grandma. But these are busier times. Desperation calls for instant help! And these ready mixes are just there, willing to lend a hand.
