For several years after we were married, I tried to make my husband a special dessert for his birthday. I tried cake, cookies, pies, heck even candy. He just isn’t a sweet treat eater. I think he would taste a bite, just to make me feel better about the work that I put in, but other than that, it usually went uneaten. After our fifth year of marriage, I completely gave up on making him anything at all. We would just go out to dinner and call that good. He was happy with that, so I don’t know what my obsession was with making him eat something sweet.
I think it probably comes from my younger days when we always got a dessert made for us by my mom on our birthdays. I always looked so forward to the yummy snacks she could make. It made the day feel that much more special, and I wanted my husband to feel special on his birthday.
When I stumbled upon these Dr Pepper bacon brownies on All Recipes, I knew in my heart that I had found his special treat. I made them for his next birthday, and he loved it! He ate a few squares even. Finally… it only took 10 years, but I got it figured out!
