Back when I graduated from high school, so many, many years ago, things were different as far as having a celebration. They weren’t the big bashes that you hear of today. I know why, too. It’s too expensive to host one for that many people. It really makes more sense just to give the graduate the money and save the hassle of the party all together. My mom was sure to give us all a little something to congratulate us on our accomplishments, and that’s all we really wanted. Just our close family and maybe a friend or two.
There were a few similarities at each of our little gatherings. Everyone got a cake from the local bakery, we grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, and bratwursts, and there was a huge bowl of her famous macaroni salad to go around. It was exactly like this recipe from Julie’s Eats & Treats.
When it was my graduation, I got to go through the line first, and I piled my plate full of my favorite salad. There was always enough to go around, but I was going to be darn sure I got mine!
