The kids on my block growing up were all the best of friends. Whenever we would come home from school, we would run into the house, drop our backpacks, give Mom a kiss, and head back out to play. When the weather was nice, my parents hardly ever seen us except for when we got hungry. And even then, we didn’t always come home. We would often rotate to different houses for dinner. After finding out what every parent was making, we would decide where we wanted to go.
My friend Jenny’s mom was one of the best cooks on the street. No matter what she was making, even if it was goulash, which I don’t like usually, it always tasted good. One of the things that she did differently was include a bread or roll with every single thing she made.
So, even if we didn’t like the main entree, we were still going to get something good to eat, and we got to eat with our friends so that was awesome.
One of those breads she did were hot cross buns just like these ones from All Recipes. They were so delicious, I would skip everything else on the table and just have a couple of these. Now that I have our own neighbor kids running in and out of the house, I make these all the time.
