Amish-Inspired Ground Beef And Noodle Casserole

My family lived in the Pennsylvania Dutch area of the country most of my life. Because it was all I knew, I didn’t really notice that they seemed to live a few years behind the rest of the people around the world. Everything was laid back and easy, not the rat race that I encountered when we moved to the big city. Part of living in that area of Pennsylvania meant that we got to eat a lot of traditional Amish foods.

The restaurants around the town where we went out to eat at were mostly run by Mennonite and Amish, and they made the foods that they knew how to make… and they were delicious! One of my favorites was a beef and noodle casserole that you could get just about anywhere.

After a few times dinning out on it, my mom learned how to make it herself. It was a lot like this recipe from Jam Hands. My mom’s version was even better I think. Before I left home, I was sure to get this recipe from her. Now, I make it at home for my family all the time.

It sure reminds me of my childhood. We go back there sometimes to visit our old friends, and it’s like nothing has ever changed.
