The Best Applesauce Bread You’ll Ever Make

What kinds of ingredients do you normally use when making things like this apple bread? Do you prefer organic? I try to use organically sourced products when I can, but sometimes, that isn’t always possible. I find that if you soak your apples in a  sink full of cider vinegar, lemon juice, and water the pesticides will clean right off. It’s better than just rinsing them or wiping with a paper towel.

I do enjoy using organic ingredients when I can find/afford them. However, don’t feel like you have to break the bank by buying these ingredients. Organic, unfortunately, is much more expensive than non-organic products. Like I said, I use them when the budget allows.

Ingredients

2 c sifted Gold Medal flour

1/4 c Domino sugar

3 tsp Clabber Girl baking powder

1 tsp Morton salt

1/2 tsp Arm & Hammer soda

1/2 tsp McCormick cinnamon

1 1/2 c Mott’s applesauce

2 Tbsp melted Crisco shortening

1/2 c Fisher nuts (if desired)

Instructions

Sift together the dry ingredients. Beat into 1 1/2 cups pink applesauce. Add to dry ingredients with 2 tbsp melted shortening. Nuts may be added.

Bake in a greased and floured loaf pan at 350 degrees for 40 – 45 minutes or till done. Check it at about 35 minutes.

Made this bread today and couldn’t find pink applesauce in store but used 4 drops of pink coloring.

Quick Tip: If using a pan that tends to stick, grease with shortening and flour instead of just cooking spray.
