Barbecue Pork That Doesn’t Need Barbecue Sauce? You Have To Try It To Believe It

When I was a kid, my Dad used to cook this pork stew that tasted similar to barbecue. The thing is, he never used barbecue sauce for it. He simply used a combination of vinegar, soy sauce, pepper, and lots of garlic and onions. He cooked tow different versions of that recipe- the first one with still a lot of sauce on it; and the second one with barely a drip of sauce on it. I always loved the version with very little sauce left. Since that one was cooked longer, the meat was more tender.

That pork stew recipe reminded me of this barbecue pork recipe that I am about to share with you. there is a tiny trick about this recipe that might surprise you- it’s barbecue, yes; but it will not use barbecue sauce. Instead, it will use different types of seasoning that could be the substitute for barbecue sauce.

Trying this recipe was unplanned on my part; but I’m glad I did. My husband called during lunch, asking if I could make something barbecue-y for dinner. I agreed, forgetting that I didn’t have barbecue sauce at home.

I didn’t have time to run to the grocery so I just Googled “easy substitutes” for barbecue sauce. This is one of the recipes that came out instantly, relieving me from my predicament. I didn’t even hesitate.
