When it comes to cake, Mom’s favorite will always be sans rival. She could eat a couple of slices of it before she was diagnosed with diabetes. Actually, she loves it so much that even if she has the illness, she could still eat a couple of slices. It’s just that my Dad is there to control her. That is if he isn’t tempted too.
When I was a kid, my Mom always brought me and my brother to this bakery to buy us our favorite pastries. Mine was usually an eclair. My brother usually had his doughnut. My Mom would always buy a slice of sans rival which she would bring home to eat as an after-dinner dessert. The weird thing about this is that she never made sans rival at home. I never even asked her why. I mean she could if she wanted to, but she never did. Which is why when I finally learned how to make one, I often bring it when my family and I visit them. Mom always looked really grateful and happy. Dad once told me that my Mom was being stingy with her cake. So whenever we are planning to visit, I always make two. But in smaller sizes.
This sans rival recipe from All Recipes was the reason I was able to learn how to make sans rival. The other recipes were a bit difficult, but this one is relatively easy.
