Evelyn was probably the kindest girl I have every met in my entire life. She was so nice that your prank would actually go to waste because she would really think you didn’t meant to do it. She would even say sorry to you even though everyone knew that it was your fault and it was deliberate. Evelyn wasn’t part of my caboodle in high school, but she was a friend. It’s hard not to be her friend because she really has a beautiful heart. There was a time when she invited us to her home for milk and whoopie pies. Of course we couldn’t say no. Her mom’s quite known to bake the best pies in town; whoopie or no whoopie.
When we finally met her mom, we instantly realized where she got the niceness from. Her mom was so warm and so accommodating and an all-smiles woman. Even when clumsy Richard accidentally spilled his milk all over her carpet, she truly didn’t look upset. She was more upset that his shirt was wet. We couldn’t help but tell her what we all thought about her and her family. She only laughed and told us that she and her sisters were trained the proper way. We asked her how, and this was all she said: “Momma said that whoopie pies are only those who are nice. If you’re not nice, your whoopie pie dies.” Well, it was effective I can tell you.
