While I don’t have a problem with my sons most of the time when it comes to the food they eat, there are also those times when I can’t help but admit defeat. Chiyo for example, eats almost everything except anything with ketchup on it. Something has happened when he was years younger and that kind of traumatized him. He ate hot sauce instead of ketchup. And he has never recovered. I didn’t want to force him because well, I am not a fan of ketchup myself except when it’s in burgers. And it has to be tomato too! I don’t like the sweet variety like “banana” ketchup.
But what Chiyo doesn’t know won’t hurt him. I could sneak in ketchup whenever he’s not looking. There was this time when I marinated pork pieces in a combination of soy sauce, sugar, and ketchup. I only put very little of the ketchup and they turnd out really nice after being grilled. Chiyo absolutely loved them and he didn’t even notice that it has ketchup on them. This tender beef brisket recipe reminds me of his hatred for ketchup and how a mother can actually sneak it into a few recipes that her child can eat. Chiyo loves this recipe too and he often requests if he can eat this.
