As a child, I can remember my mother putting brown bananas in the freezer to save for later. When I asked her why she wanted to freeze “rotten bananas” she laughed and told me that those brown bananas make some of the best bread in the world. I was intrigued. So, what did mother do? She got out her recipe book and turned to her famous banana bread recipe and together we made a few fresh loaves. The bread smelled amazing as it was baking in the oven. For me, baking banana bread brings up numerous feelings of nostalgia.

The person you give it to adds all of the wet ingredients and the baking process. You can easily create this banana bread mix and layer it into a decorative jar with a sweet tag tied to the outside with baking instructions and perhaps a thoughtful message or Bible verse.
