Every year, around this season, my husband begins getting a craving for split pea soup. He wants it at every dinner, and as a side with every meal. He likes it with chunks of ham, turkey, or bacon. Or better yet, he wants me to throw all of the above in there. Also, if you know my husband, you know his obsession with corn so a good amount of that gets thrown in there too. It is truly a concoction of his own, but he loves it.
Now, I have tried split pea soup in so many ways. I have tried in slowly made over the stove, or in a pressure cooker and in the crock pot. All are delicious, but in my opinion, the best is the one made in the crock pot. Why, you may ask? Well, it is because I just throw everything in the crock pot, turn it on low and don’t even have to worry about it. Time goes by and my house begins to be filled with the smell of split pea and I know my husband is going to be so pleased when he walks in the door. And boy am I right. His face lights up whenever he smells it. Food is definitely his love language so this is a definite hit!
