When I was growing up it seemed like we had Sauerkraut and sausage all of the time. You never forget the smell of this meal cooking. I can recall getting off the school bus and knowing exactly what mom was making for dinner before I even opened the door. I don’t know if it’s because we are a German/Polish family but we sure did love eating this meal and others just like it. Mom would always serve it with boiled potatoes and bread with fresh cream butter. It was a great meal! I make it just the way she did for my family.
I came across a recipe for slow cooker sauerkraut and sausage the other day that slightly differs from my mom’s recipe. It’s made in the Crock Pot and contains some extra seasonings that I never thought to put in my kraut and sausage recipe before. I whipped this up yesterday fro our Sunday dinner and it tasted amazing. Plus, it’s super quick and easy to make as you just toss everything into the slow cooker and walk away. When you come back you are met with a simmering pot of delicious food that leaves it’s scent lingering throughout your whole house. Seriously, your neighbors will be drooling.
