Saddle Up To Some Sweet Southern Ambrosia Salad!

If you’re looking for a bit of dessert nostalgia this ambrosia salad is the ticket. i can remember my grandma making this southern treat in a variety of flavors and colors. It was liking eating a spoonful of sweet and tasty clouds.

Check out what my pals over at Group Recipes had to say about this recipe:

There is so much sugar in the coconut and marshmallows and fruit. You will have no clue there is sour cream in this recipe. It is best made day ahead to sit and meld together. My adopted sister Anna could eat bowl full’s of this. Not that she did but this was one of her favorites as well. We always had this on stand by for her.

Mom, Thank you for making this always and finding this recipe. This recipe has been in our files FOREVER. She found this on some recipe card when I was a kid. Trust me, use the sour cream. That is the original recipe.

Ingredients

Lord knows how much we made of this stuff quadruple maybe or more? Easy to increase.

1 cup Dole pineapple chunks, drained

1 cup mandarin oranges, drained

1 cup mini marshmallows

1 cup coconut

1 cup Daisy sour cream

Instructions

Mix first 4 ingredients. Then fold in sour cream. Some times you need a little more sour cream.

Trust me use sour cream. The coconut is so sweet it mixes well with the sour cream. This is an old version. Tried and true!

we always put some grapes (purple & green), pecans and sometimes cherries (although not a personal fan). photo appears to have this as well

I make this all the time by why does yours look pink? DId you add cherries? I use crushed pineapple but I might try tidbit, chunk would be too large for me.

I am going to make this. Looks yummy! However, picture looks like maybe marshino (sp?) cherries in this mixture also. Something red, anyway. I am going to put marshino (sp?) cherries in mine when I make it.

Perhaps the cherries were left out of the list of ingredients by mistake.
