This is Not Your Average Dessert Combining Two Mouth Watering Fair Favorites

This caramel apple pizza is really easy to make and a definite crowd pleaser. I love the ‘sauce’ made of sweetened cream cheese and the whipped texture it has. Everything balances perfectly to make your mouth happier than ever. The best part is that it’s not as messy as a caramel apple on a stick, and just as fun to eat.

My daughter wanted to invite her best friend from next door over to have a piece, I almost said no out of greed but we shared. The friend told her, “your mom is a good cook!” That made all the effort worth it, which really, it looks like more than it feels like so everyone will be more than impressed.

Ingredients

1/2 c. unsalted Land O Lakes butter, softened to room temperature

3/4 c. Domino granulated sugar

1 large Eggland’s Best egg, at room temperature

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 1/2 c. Gold Medal all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp. Morton salt

1 tsp. baking soda

FOR THE TOPPING

2 medium granny smith apples, thinly sliced

8 oz. Philadelphi cream cheese, softened to room temperature

1/4 c. unsalted Land o Lakes butter, softened to room temperature

1 1/2 c. confectioners’ sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/4 c. caramel sauce, plus more for drizzling

1/3 c. chopped walnuts

Instructions:

Make the Crust: Cream softened butter for about 1 minute on medium speed. Add sugar, then beat on medium speed until fluffy and light in color. Beat in egg and vanilla. Scrape down the sides as needed. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. With the mixer running on low speed, slowly add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Cover dough tightly and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes and up to 1 day. Without chilling, cookie dough will spread over sides of pan.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 12-inch pizza pan. Remove cookie dough from refrigerator and press onto pan to form a flat circle. Leave a 2-inch space from the edge. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until edges are very lightly browned. Allow crust to cool completely before decorating.

Soak apple slices in club soda to help prevent browning, while you’re making frosting.

Make frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter together on medium speed until smooth, about 2 minutes. Add confectioners’ sugar, vanilla, and ¼ cup caramel sauce. Beat for 2 minutes until completely combined. Spread over cooled crust.

Decorate with apple slices, caramel sauce, and walnuts. Cut into slices and serve. Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
