Meet the Italian Lasagna’s Greek Cousin Named Moussaka

Luscious layers of minced beef mixed in a red wine tomato sauce, followed by sweet eggplant and a creamy béchamel sauce are all baked to a golden color for a delicious Greek dish.

There are many variations on this casserole; from vegetarian versions, to using lamb versus beef, and some recipes also call for using a layer of sliced potatoes. With this recipe, we are sticking to the classic but feel free to add your own deviations as you please.

Serve this dish with a side Greek feta salad and a glass of wine for a well-rounded meal. This is one of my favorite Greek meals and an absolute must, every time the travel bug bites me!
