This Fast And Fantastic Fried Food Is Perfect For Your Summer Barbecue Side Dish

I grew up in the south, but moved away for college and aside from holiday visits, never made my way back there.  One of the things I’ve missed the most over the years is my grandmother’s amazing southern cooking, and her fried okra was at the top of that list.  I’ve had several misses and a couple of serviceable substitutes, but never found the combination that had the crunch and flavor of the okra I remember – until now!

I’m positive that this is how my grandmother made her okra and I’m super excited to make it again as soon as possible!  Unsurprisingly, this is a Paula Deen recipe.  I should have known to check out her okra recipe first to find this southern staple that I remember so well.

Quick Tip:  This recipe uses buttermilk, which can be substituted by stirring a tablespoon of lemon juice into a little less than a cup of milk and let stand for 5 minutes.
