When I go to coffee shops, the first thing I always order other than that giant cup of café latte is a slice of a cinnamon bun with cream cheese frosting.
It’s my set of comfort food that never fails to cheer me up. I never put sugar in my coffee. I love tasting the raw bitter flavor of the coffee beans. The aroma of the coffee itself doesn’t give justice to the taste. I will not be able to experience that if I put sugar; though I do indulge myself with some milk. This coffee tastes best with the cinnamon buns. The slightly salty cream cheese frosting complements the sweetness of the bun. And it melts in the mouth!
I used to often wonder if there’s a dessert that would put two of my favorite things together. After searching in every bakery and restaurant, I found out that there’s such a thing as cinnamon coffee cake. It’s quite pretty common in bakeries now actually, except that I haven’t really found the taste that caters to my preferences until I came across this recipe on Facebook.
This one allows the flavor of the coffee to shine, but at the same time, there’s that subtle hint of cinnamon that adds a nice twist.
