My son had started playing baseball when he was just a fresh five years old.
Last year, he played his final season as a senior in high school. It was bittersweet watching him walk off the field for that final time. He had no plans to continue with sports into his college career, so it definitely made me tear up a bit. When I looked around, there were several other moms looking at their big baby boys the same way I was looking at mine.
I started walking around giving out hugs and thanking everyone for being a part of the past several years. Then, one of the parents suggested an end-of-the-year picnic that weekend. What a great way to wrap it all up I thought. Although, I had no idea what to make, and I had no time to plan something.
I remembered a recipe that I had seen on the web for a simple pea salad and figured that was the ticket. My son actually considers peas his favorite vegetable too, that’s the only reason why I stopped to look at it when it came across the screen.
It was a huge hit! The picnic was a great way to say our final goodbyes to the sport we had spent so much time on too.
