This Caramel French Toast Is The Sweetest Way To Start Superman’s Day!

Whenever I feel that my husband is a bit stressed, I always make this sweet caramel French toast for breakfast the next day just to boost his energy level. But this is also good for snacks. I once served this to friends who visited in the afternoon. They’re in love with this! It’s perfect with a cup of tea or a cup of coffee.

In case you are still on the hunt for a breakfast casserole to feed your friends or family, I’ve got good news!  After many failed attempts, I think I’ve finally perfected my Slow Cooker French Toast Casserole.  And I must say, it’s a winner!

Ingredients

  • 12-14 oz loaf Marketside french bread
  • 14 oz can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk (caramel flavor if you can find it)
  • 4 Eggland’s eggs
  • 1 cup Borden milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon Morton salt
  • 1 cup Kraft Caramel Bits 
  • 2 tablespoons Borden heavy cream
  • 8 oz Alouette crème fraîche (optional)

 

 

Instructions

  1. Cut bread into 2-3 inch cubes

     

  2. Spray slow cooker with non-stick spray
  3. Press bread down into bottom of slow cooker and compress as much as you can
  4. Pour condensed milk evenly over bread
  5. Whisk together eggs, milk and salt and pour evenly over bread
  6. Cover and cook on high for 2 to 2 1/2 hours
  7. Melt caramels and cream in microwave using 30 second intervals and stirring between until smooth
  8. Slice and serve french toast casserole topped with crème fraîche and melted caramel or as desired

Quick Tip: This recipe suggests using a mini slow cooker. However, you can also use a regular slow cooker and press the bread into the bottom, just note that cooking time may decrease slightly due to the additional air flow in the slow cooker.
