These Red Babies Always Seem To Find A Way Into My Mouth

Growing up, I remember my aunt’s favorite cake was always Red Velvet.  Even her daughter’s (my cousins) loved it and it is all they ever wanted for their birthdays.  My mom always made homemade cakes for everyone’s birthdays so we really got into the tradition of making them each a red velvet cake for their birthday.  I always thought it was a bit strange to want a red cake, but after trying my mom’s amazing recipe, I knew why they loved it.  This was outstanding! How had I never given this red cake a chance?

Anyway, from then on I was hooked on red velvet and that is all I want for my birthday now.  My husband knows this and so do my kids.  Even my four year old knows to buy mom a red cake when it is time to celebrate.  It is fun, delicious and such a cool cake to share with the family.  I will be honest and say I have even sneaked a red velvet cupcake on my trip to the supermarket and eaten it on the way home before even getting home to my kids.  Yep.  Real life right there!  On one of those trips, the idea for this recipe came into being…
