This Traditional Pie Will Turn An Ordinary Weeknight Into A Holiday Feast

How is it that everything your grandmother makes, always tastes so incredibly delicious? Even if she’s just using a few basic ingredients and no special seasonings. It must be the TLC she is pouring into every dish she makes!

Of course you can make this pie with basically any kind of meat, so feel free to use only beef if that’s what you prefer. However, I recommend combining pork and beef – it turns out super juicy and flavorful. You can also add any kind of vegetables in the filling; corn, peas, carrots… Serve with cranberry sauce!

Ingredients

2 (9 inch) unbaked pie shells

2 lb lean ground pork

1 lb lean ground beef

1 1/2 cup mashed potatoes

salt

ground black pepper

1 tsp ground nutmeg

1 egg white

optional: vegetables of your choice

Instructions:

Brown the beef and pork over medium heat until thoroughly cooked. Drain off grease.

Mix together with the remaining ingredients, except egg white.

Line a 9 inch pie dish with pastry. Spoon the meat mixture into pie crust, and top with second pie crust. Brush top crust with egg white. Cover the edges with aluminum foil to prevent burning.

Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Remove foil for final 15 minutes of baking.

Quick tip: If you have a lot of pastry, use some of it to decorate the top of the pie.
