Miss Ella’s Old-Timey Layered Yellow Cake With Fudgy Chocolate Frosting

My favorite cake ever is yellow cake.

Yep, that Betty Crocker style boxed cake mix is what makes me go wild.  It is all I want for my birthday and all I ever got growing up.  That is, until my mom switched to white cake mix instead. No, no, no. that is not the way to go when you want a cake mix.  Classic cake mix is yellow and that is the only way I want my cake.  That is why when my favorite style of yellow cake mix went out of stock permanently (pass the tissue, I still tear up!), I decided to find my own yellow cake mix with chocolate frosting style cake.

After looking endlessly on Pinterest, I ran across one amazing recipe.  This one was chock-full of tips to create the perfect old fashioned yellow cake mix that looks and tastes like it comes out of the box.  I made this one time and time again and it never failed.  Every single time I tried it, I got it right and it tasted just like my beloved boxed cake of old. From now on, I am always making this recipe for my birthday cake, and anyone else’s for that matter!
