This Ain’t Your Mama’s Strawberry Shortcake

I never believed it when I was little, but my grandpa was a great baker. Grandma did all the cooking, my mom did all of our cooking, the aunts did the cooking at their house. I was pretty old fashioned I guess, just because I wasn’t used to seeing men in the kitchen that often. My Gramps on the other hand… he loved it in there. He was an expert at sweet treats though. He never did a lot of the meat and potato type stuff. I remember eating his strawberry shortcake just like it was yesterday.

There is a recipe that is just like his on All Recipes that I came across a few months ago, and I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had to make it for my family right away. I even enlisted the help of my husband. I thought maybe he would enjoy a little bit of baking, just like Gramps did.

We actually had a lot of fun together making these, but the most fun came when it was time to eat. Our kids loved these so much I think I caught them licking their bowls clean. We definitely didn’t have any leftovers I can tell you that much.
