Aunt Betty’s Ham And Bean Soup

The first baby shower that I ever went to was for my mom’s cousin Sarah. I think I was about ten years old. I don’t really remember much about going except there were all women there, a ton of presents, and really good food. We had it in a garage of a family member’s house in the Spring, so it was nice enough for us to run outside and play. That’s pretty much what me and my sister did the whole time that we were there, except for when it was time to eat.

Back then, our family did things like baby showers potluck style, just to make it easier on everyone. My mom’s Aunt Betty made the best ham and bean soup, and I looked forward to that more than the party I think.

It was just like this recipe from Spend with Pennies. It was so hearty and delicious, I think I had three bowls that day. It was a good thing, because I burned all that energy right back off running around outdoors while the adults played with baby stuff.
