My husband has a lot of siblings, but my most favorite in law has to be the one who’s just entered college. He reminds me so much of my husband when we’re still in university. They were both outgoing and sociable; and a little bit moody. They’re also both good in baseball and have been representatives of the university for interschool competitions. And of course, they both whined a lot. My husband wouldn’t admit it though.
He outgrew them though right after we graduated. Real life challenges outside of school taught him to be strong in any case. The whine was reduced to silent brooding and unending patience.
So one time, that particular brother-in-law of mine arrived during dinner. He looked so down that even my sons were looking at him with frowns on their faces. Over a nice dinner of chicken and cornbread casserole, he told us his predicament.
It was about the matters of the heart. He broke up with his long-time girlfriend and it broke him. He looked so sad I almost pitied him.
Almost is the key word. He managed to eat almost half of the casserole dish. He looked instantly better right after he ate, and my husband couldn’t help but laugh at the incredulous look on my face.
