This Gratin Will Make Any Meal A Special Occasion

This May Be Considered a Side Dish But It Will Probably Outshine Your Entree!

If there’s one thing I appreciate most in casseroles, it has to be the greens. Some of my favorite casseroles involve my favorite green and leafy vegetables, and I appreciate them the most. While creamy and cheesy casseroles are a family favorite, we sometimes look for something that will help balance the taste. Food is meant to be enjoyed; and rich food usually make us stop eating even though we find them delicious. If there is an ingredient in there that will give a hint of freshness, then it will be better.

This creamed kale gratin recipe from Country Living is the perfect example of what I am talking about. It’s a rich casserole with all the cheese, cream, and butter in there. However, there is also kale in there, which gives that touch of freshness.

When I made this for my family, my husband immediately finished his first piece. He had to have another one because he said he couldn’t get enough of it. When he was finished, he told me that for some reason, he just wanted to keep eating even though it was a bit rich.

My sons prefer spinach, but they really love this recipe. The proof is the squeaky clean plates that were in front of them after supper. I guess this is really a casserole which everyone will love.
