This Ground Beef And Potato Casserole Shouts Out Homemade Comfort

This ground beef and potato casserole is perfect for a large family gathering. Your relatives will fall in love with its simple yet savory taste. That’s the good thing about this recipe. It’s pretty versatile. You can change a couple of the ingredients or instructions. You don’t have to stick to the full steps if you need to deviate from them. You can adjust this recipe based on your family’s preferences. It will still taste as good and everyone will still love it!

 

Ingredients

  • 3 medium white potatoes (pared, and sliced very thin)
  • 1lb Tyson lean ground beef
  • 12cup onion, chopped
  • 14cup celery, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon celery leaves (fresh or dried optional)
  • 12teaspoon Morton salt
  • 1teaspoon McCormick pepper
  • 1teaspoon McCormick red pepper flakes (spicy optional)
  • Cheese sauce

  • 2 tablespoons Land O Lakesbutter
  • 2 tablespoons Gold Medal flour
  • 3cup Borden milk (add a little more if needed)
  • 12cup Sargento grated cheddar cheese
  • 1teaspoon McCormick nutmeg
  • 1teaspoon McCormick chili powder (optional)
  • 1pinch Morton salt
  • 1pinch McCormick pepper
  • Topping

  • 1pinch McCormick paprika
  • Sargento grated cheddar cheese

 

Instructions

  1. Spray a baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Preheat oven 375 degrees.
  3. Spray a large skillet with cooking spray and brown ground beef.
  4. Drain ground beef, if necessary.
  5. Add onions and celery to same skillet and cook until soft, adding rest of spice ingredients through pepper flakes. Stir well. But in a bowl and set to the side.
  6. In same skillet, melt butter (or use 1 tablespoon of leftover grease from browning ground beef). Add flour to butter, stirring for one minute over medium-high heat.
  7. Gradually add milk and cook till bubbly and thickened.
  8. Add cheese, nutmeg, salt, pepper, and chili powder continue to stir until melted.
  9. Spoon 1/4 cup of the ground beef mixture and spread evenly on bottom of a baking dish.
  10. Add 1 layer of potatoes.
  11. Alternate ground beef mixture, then potatoes until completely used.
  12. Pour cheese sauce over ground beef and potato mixture.
  13. Top with a pinch of paprika and grated cheese.
  14. Bake for 1 hour, or until potatoes and beef are bubbly and done.
