Roast Your Way To An Incredible Dinner

My mother-in-law is a great cook. Whenever my husband and I stop by for a visit, we end up having a 3-course meal she just seems to whip up out of nowhere. It doesn’t really matter what ingredients she is using, and I’m not sure she has ever even followed a recipe. She just seems to always know what she’s doing! One of my favorite dishes that she makes is the pork roast. It’s filled with so much flavor, it’s not the least bit of dry, and the sauce is just amazing.

A few weeks ago I found some pork shoulder roast for a really good price so I thought I’d give it a try. I was pretty sure I couldn’t make anything as tasty as the one my mother-in-law makes, so I went with a completely new recipe. This one is a winner! The apples bring a wonderful aroma to this. Even my husband said it was just as good as his mother’s!

Quick Tip: You can sautee the onions before adding them, if that’s what you prefer.

This looks great and sounds delicious, but I would not try it “as-is”. The recipe is meant to fail or be frustrating: There is no reference to how big of a roast to purchase. A “whole pork shoulder” can vary greatly in size and therefore the cooking time will also vary significantly. Cooking too fast will ensure dry, tougher results.
