This has got to be one of the easiest chicken recipes I’ve ever tried. With only five ingredients (that you’ll most likely already have in your kitchen) you can create a meal that your whole family will love. Even the kids! The flavor of the onion is not overpowering at all, and that cheese? It’s pure heaven.
Here’s what our friends over at The Cookie Rookie have said about this wonderful recipe:
I have to tell you that the recipe for the French onion chicken was the bomb! I sauteed a few extra onions as we like a good amount in our dishes. I also am a huge cheese lover and used the swiss but added provolone cheese too. Gawd! It was just delish! Thanks for such a great dinner idea.
This recipe is going straight to my special box of favorites – and it’s not easy to get there, believe me!
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 10.5 ounce can French Onion Soup
1 cup croutons
2 tablespoons Bertolli olive oil
4 slices swiss cheese
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
Add chicken and cook each side for 3-4 minutes until browned.
Add the french onion soup to the skillet and allow chicken to continue to cook for another 4-5 minutes on each side, adding the croutons to the mixture after you flip the chicken. Cook the chicken until it’s white all the way through.
When chicken is fully cooked, add a slice of swiss cheese to the top of each chicken breast. Turn off heat and allow swiss to melt over the chicken.
